Scanning Configuration

Although you can perform a quick scan with the default settings, customizing the scan configuration allows you to tailor the information retrieved from the vehicle for more effective troubleshooting and a layout that suits your personal working style.

Steps for Configuring a Scan:

  1. Create a Vehicle Profile:
Before configuring your scan, connect briefly to the vehicle. This allows VCM Scanner to generate a vehicle profile and load any available vehicle-specific parameters. For details, see Creating a Vehicle Profile.

  2. Add Channels:
Add channels for the specific data you want to view or log. While some standard channels are included by default, you’ll need to add channels for additional parameters you wish to monitor, including any external devices connected to your HP Tuners interface or your computer’s serial port. See Channels for instructions.

  3. Customize Displayed Layouts:
Modify the displayed layouts—such as gauges, graphs, and charts—to show the parameters you need. Refer to Layouts for more information on customizing layouts.
