Buying From HP Tuners: What You Need to Know to Get Started

HP Tuners offers powerful tools that let customers scan, log, and calibrate their vehicles for vastly improved performance. From horse-power to fuel efficiency, you can tweak numerous variables to get your vehicle into top condition. This article is a brief introduction into what HP Tuners has to offer, as well as what you can expect from our products and services. 

MPVI3 - The MPVI3 replaces the MPVI2+ as the OBDII scanning and writing tool. Either you or your tuner must have one of these units to work with our software. The MPVI3 unit plugs directly into your car's OBDII port, while the other end is a USB jack that connects to your laptop or computer. Customers using the MPVI3 must have a PC with an internet connection. 

Licenses - Licenses are what allow users to connect a specific vehicle to the HP Tuners system. In order to purchase a license, you need credits. 

Credits - In order to purchase a license for your vehicle, you will need credits. HP Tuners now offers Universal Credits that are good for any make and model we support. A Universal Credit costs $49.99 and the number of credits you'll need to license a vehicle range from 2 to 6 (or more). You can see the credit cost per vehicle on our supported vehicle page. 

VCM Suite - The VCM Suite is made up of two parts: VCM Scanner and VCM Editor. These are essential programs that every customer must have in order to use the MPVI3 .

VCM Scanner - This half of VCM Suite lets users read and log data from their vehicle. Tuners may require a VCM Scanner file before they can tune, or provide a tune, for your vehicle .

VCM Editor - The second half of VCM Suite allows users to calibrate and write files for their vehicle. Users must know how to tune their car in order to use VCM Editor, otherwise they will need to seek out a professional tuner for assistance. 

RTD - The Remote Tune Device, or RTD, is virtually the same as the MPVI3 with one major difference it is not compatible with VCM Editor. Instead, the RTD uses the TDN Network, which lets users download tunes directly from their tuner and write them to their vehicle. 

Pro Features and Pro Link - Pro features allows for the use of advanced sensors, such as accelerometers, and features, such as Bluetooth flashing. The Standalone Data Logging feature lets you set custom start/stop triggers so you can capture only the information you need. A Pro Link cable is required to use the Pro Features. 

Dodge Smart Access Cable - This cable is required for all 2018 and newer Dodge, Jeep, RAM, and Chrysler vehicles. It is required to log ZF8-HP2 transmissions.
